Sunshine on the Pitch

For over a year, Reading on the Pitch (ROTP) has been working alongside Awlady Orphanage implementing both its Arabic and English Programs. “Awlady (‘My Children’) Orphanage” based in Cairo, Egypt, “provides a home for over 300 boys & girls (newborn-adult) in a family atmosphere that allows for their physical, mental and emotional growth & development, with an emphasis on education & vocational training to ensure that they become productive members of society.” ROTP has since become one of the family. Among the Awlady Community, ROTP was extremely fortunate to be introduced to a ray of sunshine – Nahid Abdelwahab. When ROTP introduced its mission and vision to Nahid, without a second thought she said, “I am happy to be a part of anything that is in support of our children.” In this video, you get a tiny glimpse of the light she brings daily to the Awlady Community with her incredibly engaging presence. Nahid was born and raised in Maadi, Cairo, Egypt. She graduated from Ain Shams University with Degrees in Speech Therapy, Learning Difficulties, and Mental Health. She aspires to earn a PhD in the same areas. Nahid has been working as a Social Worker at Awlady Orphanage for almost 8 years. In her free time, Nahid loves to read, cook, and listen to some of her favorite musicians; Omar Khairat, Ammar Al Sherei, Fairouz, and Mohamed Fawzi. Nahid is undoubtedly one of the most selfless and giving individuals that ROTP has had the pleasure to work alongside. Her light shines bright in everything she is a part of, as she goes above and beyond. ROTP is endlessly grateful for how deeply Nahid puts her heart into the Awlady Orphanage Community, and it is with her efforts that our communities now have become one.
