Did You Know: (Of its 10.91 million population) Nearly 2.32 million South Sudanese have fled to neighboring countries, and 2.22 million remain internally displaced in South Sudan due to violent conflict throughout the country. It is the largest refugee crisis in Africa and the third-largest refugee crisis in the world. (Source: UNHCR) More than 65% of the South Sudan refugee population are children. (Source: UNHCR) More than 2.8 million children are out of school. (Source: UNICEF) As of 17 March 2024, and according to figures from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, more than 500,000 Sudanese individuals fled the conflict in Sudan to Egypt, making Egypt the second largest host of Sudanese people fleeing the recent conflict, followed by Chad. (Source: UNHCR) Reading on the Pitch and Youth Support Volunteer Organization have come together to provide learning through play to a group of children in Cairo recently arriving from South Sudan and Sudan who are still awaiting entry into the school system.
